'Nemesis' by Eric Paice

After Professor Evans of the Astronomical Institute detects the arrival of the Nemesis on Earth, his assistants, Liz Becker and Rudi Schmidt head off to investigate the spaceship. However, inside the vessel Rudi accidentally activates a device, and he is rendered blind. Meanwhile, Adam and Shem explore their new surroundings in an attempt to find sanctuary from their Medusan oppressors.
